Mosin Nagant 91/59

I already own and reload for a laminated M44, but was getting tired of being hassled at the range over the bayonet being extended when shooting, so I’ve had my eye out for a nice 91/30. The other day at lunch I spied a 91/59 on the rack at a local gun shop for $200.00. It is based on a 1943 Izzy all matching with a bright sharp bore, 100% blueing, and clean un-sanded wood (not blonde but a dark amber color), overall in excellent condition. I know I paid a premium for this rifle, but was tired of looking down shot out bores at BIG 5.

Good for you, the best part is you know you paid premium but your not TOO far over priced and you got to inspect it and choose what you liked.  Good call.  The 91/59 will be a good one ot hang onto as they are not quite as common as so many other 'ol Mosins.  I have a bazillion Mosins and still no 91/59 yet.  I know I should ahve bought one to round out the collection a bit but never did.

Good for you!  I do have 2 M38's one of which is in original 38 stock......so no bayo's on those

I picked my 91/59 up at a local gun shop for $89.95 about a year ago.  It has the best trigger of any milsurp (and most commercial) rifle that I have ever tried.  It is also very accurate.  It is all sighted-in and ready to go deer hunting, but so are about 1/2 dozen other rifles, and it hasn't gone hunting yet.

Just fold the bayonet back? Why get hastled over it?

Wish I could, but when the bayonet is folded the "point of impact" shifts 4" to the left and the group opens up.  I get best accuracy with the bayonet extended.

Weasel - I found the same thing with my M44 and finally just removed the bayonet, lug and all and that rifle would shoot inside 2" at 100 with open sights - it helped when I kept my eyes open too, but those bayonet assemblies don't do anything at all for accuracy.  JMTCW.
