Deer & Pig
« on: November 24, 2008, 09:21:10 AM »
Saturday morning in Ruskin, FL, I met up with my hunting partner for a morning hunt.  He had invited another to go also.

When he broke into clearing to sit his stand. a six point was in the field.  He watched it cross the field and shot it before it left the field.  Now that was about 10 minutes after I got on my stand.

About 30 minutes later, my buddy had not left his field so as not to disturb us, two pigs I thought were 100+ came to the feeder I was sitting.  I am left handed.  The stand is set for a right handed person to shoot in direct of feeder.  As the pigs crossed behind a tree, I shifted my 6.5x55 Savage 110 to my right shoulder.  The first pig started to act like he had busted me.  I shot just as they bolted.

When I started looking, I found the hog about 35 yards into woods, the swede had done in both lungs, quite a killing shot using remington corelok bullets. We put it on a scale which bootomed at 200 lbs.  We figure at least 225lb.  It was a bar, plenty of fat on body for sausage.  The deer was good sized for Florida deer.  We were done by 0730.

Mornings like that are the stuff of good memories.  Opening day of Modern Gun for deer in FL this season, my12 y.o. son Josh and I sat on a stand not hunted in three seasons.  Within 20 minutes he shot a 185# boar.  Nothing but neck!  I love it when there's meat on the ground in less than an hour.

On the other hand, I have "Paid Dues" on many many more occasions.  Seems like you guys are collecting on some dues previously paid.  Congratulations.
