T/C Contender carbine in 375 Win ???
« on: December 11, 2008, 02:20:54 AM »
I just bought another Gen 1 s/s synthetic stocked T/C Contender carbine this one has a 21" barrel and is chambered in 375 Winchester which will fill the gap between my 308 B ellm barrel and my 45-70 barrel.

Does anyone here have any experience with the 375 Win in this format?

I had a .375 WCF in a Ruger No.3 carbine.  I used 220-grain Hornadys over 38.0 grains of AA1680 for 2285 fps and about 1.5 moa accuracy.  The 200 Sierras were faster of course, 40.0 grains of AA1680 giving 2495 fps an 2 moa.  AA1680 gave me higher velocities and better accuracy than Reloder 7, which is the "classic" propellant for this case.  As always, work up from below.

I do not think that gun will fill the gap and do you justice.  I will be happy to take it off your hands for a reasonable price.

Seriously in a handgun I use the Hornady 220 gr bullet and IMR 4198 with great results.

And also seriously, if you ever decide the 375 Win is not for you I would love to have one in a carbine.

I had that exact gun a few years back, right down to the synthetic stock and with a compact 4x Burris scope.  It was a very light rifle, and had quite a kick with 225gr bullets over RL7.  Its very easy to load for, and was surprisingly accurate.

Its a good one!!  You have a keeper, I have had one for years and love it!!!  Shot many deer with lots of bang flops.

I have used both the 200 Sierra's and the 220 Hornadys. But the 220 Hornadys are my favorite.

On a side note, I could never get the 235 Speer to shoot well. I really wish that someone made a 250RN specifically bullet for the 375Win. THAT would be THE bullet!!
