Who actually makes the Firestorm 1911?
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:31:10 PM »
I know that most of the "Firestorm" branded guns are made in Argentina, same as "Bersa", but there seems to be some question as to where the 1911s are made. Some say they are made in Spain by Llama and some say they are made in the Philippines, same as "Rock Island Armory", "American Classic" and "Charles Daly" brands. Who knows for sure? All I know for sure is I don't want a Llama! ;D

That one is made in the Philippines but not by the company that makes RIA.

Thanks Lynnie, I guess I just never thought the Philippines was so industrialized as to have more than one gun maker, although I know Filipinos do like their guns.

My pleasure. I got to handle one at a recent gun show. It was nice enough for the price.

I thought that the Firestorm was mfgd in Spain, by a group of ex-Llama people? I share coyotejoe's distaste for the former Llama brand...a .38 Super of that marque is the only pistol that ever KaBoomed in my hand, when a case blew on the feed ramp...but a pal of mine picked up a Firestorm to keep in his camp...gotta be a gun you don't mind losing to a camp thief...and we were surprised. It felt like two-plus pounds of scrap in the hand, cleverly disguised as a 1911; you could file your nails on the finish; but it shot very well, fired cases ejected cleanly and WHOLE, and in general the piece gave good service. I call it his "Orc issue .45".
The metal seems good. He has used it now for several seasons, as a plinking-loaning-teaching gun for folks who visit his remote woods camp, and it is holding up well to both factory and sane handloads.
Sometimes there ARE agreeable surprises. (I still haven't rushed out and bought one of my own...my pal's may be the single exception to the rule: Spanish guns suck.)

The new production Firestorm 1911 is as stated, I have no clue about their other products, only the 1911. It's just another inexpensive entry in the 1911 market and seems like a fairly decent gun for the $$$.

I went to pick out a 1911 the other day.  It had been a number of years sence I had owned one.  The only two he had was a firestorm and a RIA model.  Picked up the two guns and there was no comparison in the feel.  The RIA fit nicely in my hand and the Firestorm felt like a hunk of iron.  There was about $100 difference in price with the RIA bing the most expensive.  I got the RIA because I knew that after feeling both I would never be satisfied with the firestorm.  I haven't fired it yet as it is a Christmas present and I can't get my hands on it again until then.  It gives me something to look forward to.

Ranger J,

When you get a chance to go shoot it can you give us a report on how it does? You don't get to hear much about the RIA firearms. I would like to know how they shoot.

I have a  RIA 1911 38 Super, excellent for the price, having adjustable sights installed. Very accurate, but my old eyes needed better sights.....
