.444 Ultra SS Range Report
« on: December 13, 2008, 01:23:06 PM »
I have to say, this is the most accurate out of the box rifle I have ever owned!  Ok, not quite out the box, I did take 2 minutes to float the forend while I was installing the camo laminate thumbhole stock.  Shooting the Hornady LE 265 grain cartridges, it is a stacker.

I sighted it in with 7 shots.  First shot at 25yards was 3" low, 1/4" right.  Adjusted the scope and moved out to 100 yards.  2 shots, almost one hole 1" low, 1" left.  Next two shots, again practically one hole 1" high, 1" right.  Next two shots, again almost one hole and dead center.

The range was only 100 yards so I didn't get a chance to try out the BDC on the Pine Ridge scope.  I am very stoked with this combo at this time.

Thanks for the range report Kendall.
Sounds like you've got a keeper!
Now it's time to make some bacon or burger with it! ;D

Nice report.  My 444 is the regular Handi with a 2 MOA red dot on it and though it doesn't make 1 hole groups, that's my fault and not the rifles.  I need to put a scope on it to see what it will do, with the 1 in 20" twist, I have yet to hear of a bad shooter in that chambering.  Now if I can just get the kids and wife to all chip in to get dad a bunch of gift cards at my favorite toy store, just might hafta get me one of them new silver ones. ;)  So far have only seen the 45-70 version here.  DP

Also, I don't think it kicks any harder than my 45/70, but it is definitely more "snappy" on the recoil.  I guess that is because of the higher velocity.
