Handload for 444 Handi-Rifle
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:49:04 AM »
50.8gr of H335 with a 300gr Hornady XTP. Works great in my Handi-Rifle. The maximum load (Hornady manual) for this combo is 51.3gr of H335 so I would advise starting at a much lower 41.9gr and working up slowly. Watching for excess pressure the whole way.

Below is a example of the type of consistent groups I get with this load. Sorry, it was only 30 yards but I at a local outdoor pistol range

That looks good, haven't tried H335 but have used IMR 3031 with good results.  Only have a 2x red dot scope on mine so haven't done much paper shooting with it, just busting rocks and dirt clods.  I think that is more fun anyway. ;D ;D  DP

It took me a year to discover this load combo. I tried 4 different powders and I've lost count of the various types of bullets. Nothing was working. The target always looked as if it had been hit with a load of buckshot. It wasn’t until (in desperation) I moved up to the heavy bullets that my shot groups improved. The fact is, my rifle just doesn’t like anything less than 300gr. Every rifle is a bit different I suppose.

I've been using 265 Hornady and Want to try the Speer 270 GD as well.  Bought 1 box of 300's but haven't tryed them yet either.  It's below zero and has been for a week except for 2 days and looks like at least 3 more days before we get above for the days high.  Not gonna go play till it gets warmer.  DP
