Long rang, high power scope on a bugget?

Yes i have hear with scopes "you get what you pay for". But I'm on a bugget (not over $200). I am looking for some thing like 6-20,8-36 or a facsimile there of. Have looked at Barska (BAD replies), BSA (looks good), Bushnell (Banner 6-24  like the 3-9 on my 300wsm(not a Banner)), and Cablela's Pine Ridge (6-18). Any one have any info about any of them?

3 out of the 4 BSA products I have are junk and completly useless. My red dot won't hold zero after less than 10 20 guage slugs, my low power variable won'y hold zero after being on my handi 45-70, I have a 3x9 on a 22 mag that the cross hairs turn when you turn the power ring. My 2.5 power fixed seems to work still. I have 2 bushnell banners, a 4x12 and a 1.5 to 4, they are great. I have a Simmons prairie master 4 to 16 with target turrets on my 25-06 it repeats ajustments and works great.

For a good clear scope under $200 i really like the Bushnell Trophy 6X-18X as this is also the scope I just put on my H&R 22X30-30 improved.

I've been looking at some of the Pentax Gameseekers...

Reviews I've read have been good.   The 4-12 I looked at
had very clear glass.

I've seen 4-12 and 4-16's on ebay for under $125.  I think
they offer a 6-18 also...

I'd stay away from Barska (junk) and BSA's also...

+1  on the Mueller

 Tim I knew you would say Mueller.  I bought one for my 223 and love it.  took a few adj to get set clear but it is worth the 165 I paid.  I think it is the mpv 4.5-14???  not real sure gun has been on the rack for a while.  I am going to get one for the 308 real soon.

I had the same problem when looking for a scope for my .308 survivor. I started off with a BSA 3-9x50 and I could never get it to hold a zero. I then went and bought a bushnell banner 6-18x50 and I have shot almost a hundred rounds after i sighted it in and it is still dead center. I even dropped the gun about 1.5 ft. and it didn't affect it at all. I put the BSA scope on my .22 and it has taken many lil critters since. BSA are good scopes they are just not made to handle recoil.

Have the Pentax and the Mueller. Both are great scopes and you would be happy with either. ;)

An old 6.5 to 20 44 mag simmons will stand up to most recoil.  I know a lot of shooters who used them on spring piston air rifles, without any problem.  They are good scopes, and the a-for-mentioned white tail classic is good too.  However, these are not a leo, burris, or B&L, so the choice is yours.

I just bought a Tru-Glo 8 to 32 X 44 from Natchez, for six five dollars.  The scope seem well built, and the optics are quite clear.  Have not really run it through all the hoops yet, but it seems pretty good.  I have it mounted on a 22 rimfire, so recoil is not a problem.

My advice goes something like this:  If you are buying the scope with the idea of taking a costly hunting trip, take the cheap junk off, and by the best.  However, if you are just shooting paper or plinking with it then, if the scope fails you don't loose much just a day at the range...  but, if you haul the gun accross the country, you will wish that you had spent a lot more. 

Bottom line it depends on the use....
