Scopes and 1895 Marlins
« on: December 27, 2002, 01:32:11 PM »
Hi all,

I have an 1895 Marlin in 45-70 that I truly love.  The problem is the scope I have on this gun sits way too high - my cheek is almost off the stock. Part of the problem is the higher mounting system but the other problem is too much drop in the stock.  Anyone have any ideas?  Does anyone make a stock without as much drop?  I also thought of adding a pad to the comb to raise it.  I've shot a couple of bears with this gun and it is a real thumper with 400 gr Speers.  Thanks.

Don't know your setup, but I have a Luepold VX-1 2-7x28 with a Weaver mount and Medium Burris Z Rings on mine.  It does not seem to high for me.  I it possible to lower the scope rather than change the stock?

Another way is put a XS Sight System scout scope base on your gun. It mounts on the front existing screw holes on a standard base and the rear factory sight dove tail. Than put a IER Scout scope on it. I am doing this with my Marlin 1894C 357mag. I also have their ghost ring sight. Here is their site at www.ashleyoutdoors.com :-)
