Short on Supplies but Ready to Go

Well, I planned to really build up my equipment this summer, but I also turned 16 this summer. That means drivers liscense, which also means my first truck. And, when your parents aren't rich they can't buy you a vehicle, so I had to buy my own. My mom helps out some, but she also has driving rights whenever she needs it.

That means I didn't get all the equipment I wanted, but I got the main stuff. I've got 24 traps of different sizes, plenty of lures and baits, enough stretchers, a fleshing beam, a fleshing knife, a good skinning knife, a little over 12 stakes, a sifter, a trowel, gloves, speed dip, and the other main things. I may be short on equipment, but I am soooo ready. But, if you think about it, with me working, going to school, and this being only my 2nd year of trapping, I don't need a whole lot of equipment.

Ky , you are starting out like many of us--except you have a motor vehicle.When I was your age,I too had a job.But my trap lines were run on foot or with a bike--try riding a bike through the snow--quite an experience.It wasnt till my first year of college that I ran my trapline with my 64 chevy.
 The main thing is you are ready and raring to go--good luck this season.  Tom

Yep, and when Boggy was a boy it was uphill both ways in the snow :)

Look at it this way if you had 300 traps then you'd be faced with skipping school or skipping trapping...that is a scary thought.  I'll be watching for your catch report along with Asa and Boggy.  Now one more word of advice keep your mom as your main squeeze or you'll not be building up yoour equipment next year either :lol:

Sounds like your ready to me!  And stakes are easy to come by as well.  So if you need more stakes you can cut small saplings, strip the bark off them and then let them dry.  Thew will be hard as a rock...just drill a hole so you can attatch them to traps.  Wood works best in the water, and mud bottoms.  Rebar stakes are heavy but they are cheap and will work better for dry land trapping.  I dont know what conditions or critters your after but that should up your stake count with little to no investment.
