Question on topper barrel fitting
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:05:24 PM »
A friend has a topper 158 with a 410 barrel on it.  It has no serial # that is readily visible.  Can this unit be factory fitted with a 30/30 or 357 barrel?

Thanks in advance for the help.

No it cannot it is too old. Sometimes barrels like the old topper 30-30's etc. show up here in the NEF/H&R classifieds though as you may already know. Check out the FAQ's for precise info as to why the present company will not fit a rifle barrel to theat receiver. It will be explained in detail.

I thought some of the toppers came with say a 22 hornet or a 30/30?  Looks like if it came with a lower pressure barrel they would fit it with one.  But I'm sure it could be to old.  Anyhow, thanks for the input.

H&R website says they will not fit barrels to frames made before 1987, and shotgun and muzzleloader barrels only on shotgun frames. Rifle frames may have shotgun, rifle or muzzleloader barrels. I don't think the 158's will qualify for factory barrel fitting. Billy

I guess that settles it then, if they will not fit any barrel to a frame older than 87.  I'm sure this one is, even though it is in excellent condition.

Thanks

As Billy said,  the accessory barrel page states that H&R1871 won't fit barrels to any frame made before 1987, that would include all the old cast iron framed Toppers that were originally made by H&R that went out of business in 1986, current production Toppers are SB1 shotguns. There's a build year list in the FAQs and Help sticky.  ;)

Additional barrels may be added to firearms of our manufacture since 1987 only, with a serial number that begins with N or H. We do not install additional barrels on any other manufacturer’s firearms.
