Peep Sights
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:01:58 AM »
I saw that Midway sells a peep sight that looks like it mounts on the barrel (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=749748).  Anyone have any experience with these?  I am thinking of mounting it on a 30-30 carbine for use on rainy/bad weather days.

Any thoughts or insights are appreciated.

I have used the sight on several barrels and it worked well, although it should be used on a barrel with the scope mount holes close to the receiver.  Barrels with only a mid-barrel sight won't work so well because the sight is too far from the eye to work corrently.

With some chamberings you may find that the front sight is too tall or too short to work within the adjustment range of the sight.  This is easily solved on newer barrels by replacing the front sight blade.
