Time for a new rumor
« on: August 22, 2003, 03:11:25 AM »
I was watching a hunting show on the outdoors channel the other night and Gregg Ritz from T/C was hunting with them.  After the hunt, the guy who was hunting with Gregg said that he may be interested in larger handgun calibers like the 500 S&W Mag.  The comment made was wait and we see what we have for you next.  Anybody heard anything?

I wouldn't be surprised to see an Encore chambering of the 500 S&W. But then, we can now get them in any caliber, even some elephant-gun cartridges.

Hasn't  J.D. already done this with an Encore?

Handcannon - let's talk about this. aside from the novelty of saying "I own a 500 S&W", what is the lure? Or better yet, why? Is there a ballistic advantage I'm not seeing over the already tried and true large bores? Don't take this as a thorn in the side, I'm just curious. I'd like to squeeze the trigger on one, but I'm not sure I'll add one to the stable.

T/C I would like a .500 Linebaugh better truth be known or even a . 475 Linebaugh, but I like the max case length not the mag length.

You are the first person that didn't try to jive me with an off the wall answer - Thank You! It's funny, the .475 is what I was relating to. I believe some of the recoil rumors are a little exagerated too about this caliber, but I understand the cylinder rotating (backwards)in the revolver is a real problem.

That is why me and you use a T/C even if its a Encore.
You only need one shot with these big boyz!!
The brass for the .500 S&W may be easyer to come by, but I like to make my on anyway.

SSK does chamber the 500 S&W.  I was lucky enough to be on a handgun hunt to see the first wild hog taken with J.D.'s Encore barrel while a buddy and myself were on a hunt at Show-Me-Safaris.  It does has some power.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.
