Can't decide what bbl's to get
« on: December 25, 2008, 06:30:10 PM »
I sent my receiver in for a .44mag and .50 ML to big green, which was just accepted into the workshop according to my email.

I was thinking of getting another bbl, and calling in Monday to add it to the order.  I currently have a .243 Handi, .223 Ultra Flute (1:9), and soon the two above.  The safe has a Marlin 336 in 30-30, 98k in 8mm Mauser, and spend most of my time killing paper and steel plates.  I will be back into hunting next season when I have some extra time on my hands.

I was thinking of grabbing one of the .357mag barrels, but what do you all think?

357 is a top pick.  I bought one and then after shooting it 6 months, sent 2 frames in to be fitted with 357's.  Get one and you won't be disappointed, if you are I'll buy it from you. ;D  DP

+1 on the .30-30. It's so versatile you can't be without one. Everything from 311 round balls on up.

The .357, ream it to maximum, you won't need the .30-30 right away, so get a .45-70.  Don't be one of the poor lost souls lacking a .45-70.

Pete - I am a lost soul. I do not have a 45-70 and I do not know if I will ever have one. I think I am getting a stubborn streak about it. There is no doubt that it is fine cartridge, pretty accurate and it is very versatile - just stubborn now. ;) I have been accused of it at work on more than one occasion. I will be stubborn to the point of hurting no one but myself. :(

The 30-30 is a very good cartridge and the 357 is such a fun gun. I guess you should consider the 45-70 too - I am not too sure, but think Pete likes his. :D
