ruger m77 hawkeye or rem 700??

Hi i want to get a gun with a really smooth action, nice stainless barrel. and that is tough and reliable. I know the rem. 700 sps stainless has a top grade action but this ruger hawkeye really caught my attention. I know some of you are die-hard ruger lovers but give me your honest opinion. Thanks!

yeah,i would definitely buy the rem. i here the spanish gun makers need some more revenue!!NOT.  i would never pass up a Ruger for a rem given the option.j.m.$.02,adker

uh,lets see,RUGER,rem,RUGER,rem,RUGER,RUGER,RUGER,LOL.no anyway,the new hawkeye is a very nice rifle,i think i was one of the first to post range results in this forum.i bought one in 358 win as soon as i was able to get one.i would own more but would be duplicating calibers,if the ones i would be replacing weren't already rugers they would be gone.mine shoots extremely well with only a little barrel floating.i can shoot resized 308 brass with hunting quality bullets into sub moa groups at 100 yds,at 150 they open up to moa.i guess it depends on what your intentions are with the rifle.the only advantage to the rem would be the trigger adjustability aspect.ruger has upgraded the trigger on the hawkeyethough,it seems fine for anything except designated bench work.
  take it for what it's worth i am definitely biased.i think you'll find only two rems in my bunch,one is a custom vt on an old 725 action,the other is a shotgun.i won't even attempt to list my ruger's in fear that the wife may intercept this message.good luck with your decision,r u g e r ,r u g e r,later adker

I have both and the remington triggers are better but the new ruger trigger is better than the older ones. Ruger's trigger is good for hunting but not paper punching. I am 6' tall and the ruger stock is a little small for my big hands and the sps remington stock fit's just fine. I noticed that your link's are for 300 win mag's? My remington 700 sps is a 300 win mag, nice gun and recoil pad for that caliber. My local store sell's the ruger's and the reminton's for the same price so it is always a tough decision. Overall I think I like the ruger M77 better.

You can't go wrong with either. It would be a matter of handling both and seeing which feels better to you. Price would also be a consideration and would be a close toss up between the two in your links. By the time you add bases and rings to the Remington its so close its not worth talking about. Rugers include rings. I have rifles from both companies and like them both. I do however tend to favor Ruger if there is no big feature to give Remington the edge.

Definitely the Ruger. 3 position safety, claw extractor,and built like a tank. My three have been shooters right out of the box.

Rem has a faster lock time which can make a big diff offhand (time from trigger break til ignition).  Having said that my Ruger 77 .358 should be here any day now!

i prefer the ruger any day of the week. i compared my m77 mkII to a remmy 700 both in 25-06 shot them both the ruger held tighter groups and i felt like the stock design carried less recoil in these calibers. not saying a 25-06 is a kicker but you could feel a difference.

Most of the rem actions I've seen lately have been very sloppy. The new Hawkeye is an excellent rifle. Lets be honest - Ruger triggers SUCK, including the L6, but it's an easy fix. Buy a Rifle Basix trigger - drop in installation, easy adjustment WITHOUT removing the action from the stock and crisp as glass.

I bought a .358 hawkeye my second Hawkeye in .308 arrived yesterday. I called Ruger and found out the bbls are free floated I'm going to buy a third one .243 in the spring.
  These rifles are tough as a tank and shoot good
  I had a couple in 1968 but they didn"t shoot as good and were bulky feeling. The Hawkeye is very lively with a slimer stock, good checkering and a decent trigger
