6.5 rem mag
« on: December 26, 2008, 01:20:18 PM »
Looking for a 6.5 rem mag for my pro hunter. I know I can't get a factory barrel, but am also havin trouble finding a custom barrel. Any suggestions. Also does anyone have this cal. in the encore and if so how do you like it. It's kind of an off cal. but the ballistics look good. Will probally be a pain but I still want one. Reloading supplies are slim too. At least I know going in.

I don't understand why you are "having trouble finding a custom barrel" in 6.5 Remington magnum.  Bullberry, Match Grade Machine, SSK, OnTargetTechnologies and Thompson/Center all chamber barrels for this cartridge.

The only advantage of a 6.5 RM is that it will fit in a short action.  In an Encore this is a mute point.   Go with a ballistically identical 6.5-06.  Relaoding supplies will be cheaper also.

Some will say that 6.5 brass is tougher, and that it has slightly more uniform ballistics than the long '06 case.  Both are true IMO.  The OP wants one - so he should get one even if it didn't have advantages.   ;)
