G2 Contender Carbine Scope Cut

I have a G2 contender carbine with a 30-30 barrel.  The problem I have is with the scope-it has become a lethal weapon.  The first outing it gave a friend a nice scope cut.  For the next outing I moved the scope toward the muzzle a bit farther.  I narrowly escaped a nice bashing between the eyes-twice.  What bases do you recommend to help me get rid of this problem?  I have been shooting for years-with various other makes and models, and this is the only rifle that is causing this problem.  I would like to have a base the allows me the freedom to move the scope way up the barrel something like they have on the ARs, but have not seem such a product for the contender G2.  Thanks for your help.

I don't have any heavy kickers in my Contender carbines, but I did find the stock a little short for me.  I started by making a one inch spacer to put between the butt plate and the stock, then had a stock made with an additional inch of pull made for me.  That made it easer for me to shoot, and would give an additional inch of space between forehead and scope.

Without drilling and tapping new base mount holes, you are pretty limited on your options and nothing that will allow you to move the scope way up on the barrel.  I'm not certain that you don't need a different scope with a better eye relief but since you asked about bases...

You could try a different base like the ones offered by evolution gun works which use a picatinny rail which will give you more choices for the rings allowing you to move the some forward some.  It is not any longer than the standard weaver 92A base but a lot more slots for the rings.  http://egw-guns.com/store/

Another option is to keep the existing base and get a set of extension rings to move the scope forward about another 1/2" to 3/4".

I have two different 30-30 g2 contenders (a blue one and a stainless one both rifles) both are scoped and I have been kissed but not cut by one of them. I want to purchase a Nikon omega muzzleloding scope with the regular crosshairs for both rifles. I have one with the bdc 250 reticle on my encore pro hunter BP rifle and love it.  I have quick detach maxima rings on it so I tried the omega on the stainless G2 when I bought it and was very pleased with it. My budget was short so I installed some old (cheap) scopes that I already had for now and it does make you nervous to pull the trigger after being used to a long eye relief. The omega has 5 inches of eye relief.

The geometry/length of both Contender & Encore stocks is such that with cartridges with heavy recoil, a scope cut is a real danger.  In my opinion, a muzzle brake is one of the best ways to mitigate this hazard.  Also, if you put on some Butler Creek scope lens covers, at least your forehead will only be hitting plastic and will be less likely to be cut.
