BLR 7mm-08 Ammo
« on: October 31, 2008, 05:08:15 AM »
I have a BLR with a stainless barrel in 7mm-08.  I know all guns have a particular ammo they like.  I have shot some 140gr TSX but they are very inconsistent.  What ammo does anyone else's BLR in 7mm-08 like??  Just wondering before dropping more $$$ in what seems to be a crap shoot to find ammo.

Don't have a BLR but do have several 7-08s. All shoot the Hornady Light Mag load using their 139 grain BTSP to less than inch groups at 100 yards. Even our least accurate rifle with every load previously fed it shoots inch groups with it. Before that I'd never seen a group under an inch in that rifle and darn few under 1.5". I highly recommend you give it a try.

Thanks!!  I broke down and got some Fed. Prem 140gr Accubonds and things were VASTLY improved.  So much so I wouldn't hesitate to take it hunting tomorrow.  I'll give the Hornady's a try and then go with whichever one shoots the best and call it done.

Believe it or not, standard old Remington Core Lokt shoots well in my BLR 7-08. Keep in mind that the skinny barrel of the BLR heats up fast...like after 3 or 4 shots and groups open up quick. I take notes at the range as to where my first and second shots from a cold barrel hit and then put the rifle away while I shoot rimfire or another rifle for a while. The first shot from a cold barrel is what counts when you're in the woods anyway. Take notice of the first 2 shots and then (have fun and) realize if you want to shoot a box of ammo or two in your BLR, you're not going to set accuracy records.
