Best sabot for 50 cal. Encore
« on: December 14, 2008, 03:38:02 PM »
Hi
I'm new to this site so I don't know if this has been talked about. I'm looking at using blackhorn 209 and a sabot. What shoots best out of yours? Looking on line Barnes spitfire T-EZ in 250 or 290 is supposed to work well. Any suggestions?

The Harvester Short Black (not crush rib) sabot seems to be all the rage with the T/C guys shooting Hornady SST and T/C Shockwaves. Might want to give them a try with the new Barnes T-EZ. This bullet is just hitting the market, so probably not to many have tried it yet.

You want a fairly tight fitting saboted bullet combination with Blackhorn 209. These ones at this link.

Good price here, but make sure you click on short for bullets under 300 grains. They also make a long version for over 300 grains.

Let me know how those new flat based T-EZ's work for you, I have been shooting the TMZ boat tailed version.

Outta mine, I'm using Harvester "High Pressure" sabots, 250gr Hornady SST, 120grs loose Triple 7 FFG powder, Winchester 209 primer.
This load has worked for me  ;)
Good Luck  :)

I like the new Hornady 50 caliber Low Drag SST ML 300 grain sabots.  Less plastic fouling in the barrel and groups at 100 yards are less than an inch with 100 grains of 777 loose and 777 209 primer in my Remington Genesis.

Don't mean to steal the thread here but, how would you compare the performance of the Barnes TMZ to the TC Shockwaves (a.k.a SSt's)? I've done my initial sight-ins with the 250 gr. TC's and the accuracy has been outstanding.  I've always been impressed with the terminal performance of the Barnes out of my shotgun and have been thinking of giving them a try in the ML.  I will say though that the last 6 shots within our group using the TC's have resulted in 6 dead deer so I'm beginning to question some of the questionable performance capabilities of the TC's that I have read about.
