.308 Survivor + Krylon
« on: January 02, 2009, 02:06:13 PM »
I had some free time this holiday so I got around to having some fun with my Survivor. When I bought this rifle I intended it as a walking varminter and pack rifle but the all black finish is a dead give away to coyotes that something is not Kosher. So here we go.

Here she is before I got started.

To start I wiped the entire outside of the gun with Windex to remove any oils. Next I taped off all the parts I didnt want painted i.e. the trigger area, muzzle, and around the hammer and the barrel latch lever. Then I used the Krylon brown as a primer and painted the whole gun with 3 coats and let dry over night.

Next I went over it with the tan and started over laying the other colors.

After I got all of the base colors done it was time to do the over lay. I used pine branches because everything else is dead this time of year.

I layed out the over lay so that the flat black I used could get down to the gun.

Once it was all layed out I used the flat black cammo paint and from about 1' away gave it a good dusting. This gives it depth and softens the edges.
Here is the finished product.

Thanks ;D

I have done similar paint jobs to a couple of other guns and even my laptop when the finish got all scrathed up form taking it to the field and Iraq.

It is a good winter project when it is to cold to go shooting.

Looks good, better watch where you put them down at as you might not find them again!
