.44 Mag. LeverEvolution any body shoot any yet?
« on: August 21, 2008, 10:12:30 AM »
I was at Bass Pro the other day and saw some .44Mag LeverEvolution on the shelf.  I've seen advertisements for it but have not heard any performance data on it yet.  Has anybody shot any yet?  How do you like it?  I think I'm going to make a trip over there and pick me up a few boxes.  I think it might be a good hunting round.

I've shot it in a 22" Handirifle with one of the new Marlin made barrels, velocity averages 1760fps , accuracy was about the same as the 240gr XTP, 1½" 100yd groups with a peep sight and my old eyes....if this helps any.  ;)

Tim's results mirror mine almost exactly, except I'm using a scope (Tim must be a better shot than I am).

Bottom line, it's good enough for deer hunting in the state of Indiana this year!

BTW,  Bass Pro had a 10% off leverevolution ammo so I bought a couple boxes @ 17.00 per.

1 1/2 inch groups at 100 with a peep?  5 shot group?  Dang Tim, wish I could do that!

3-shot group, it actually measures 1¾", never put a tape on it until now, just eye-balled it. ::) I think I could do considerably better with a scope, in fact I put a scope on it just to find out next time it goes with me when I work on handloaded 240gr XTPs. 8)

I have run 3 boxes of em thru my handi.  I like them alot.  My groups are only about 3" at 100 yards, but gun rest and seup are pretty poor.  I just bought a sighting stand, so they should get better.

One thing I did notice at 50 yards is that when the leverlution's were dead on, other "standard" winchester shells were about 1-1/2" to the right in a consistant pattern.  That proved to me not to switch ammo after you get something working.

Yeah, and those dang brass cartridges are just a passing fad. ;)  Lloyd's got a point:  those pointy things look pretty funky sticking out of the end of a revolver cylinder.  Question is, how do they shoot?

IMO, glad you asked the question, tried some in my new marlin 1894, and they are very accurate.  Bought the rifle for our Indiana deer season.  This may be the load I use this year.

let me get this straight, Mad Dog tried some hair in a can in his Marlin 1894? How was the accuracy and did it gum up in cold weather?....<><....:)

and this from a "follicley challenged" member I might add...more hair on my chinny chin
chin and under my nose than on the top of my head during the cold winter months......

Let me get this right.....  you get a .44 mag lever gun, some hornady ammo(the pointy stuff) , some hair in a can , a shamwow, a pocket fisherman, and a ginsue knife..... I keep getting this picture in my head when I sit at the bench and my shot groups are expanding............just what is it that I do with the shamwow?

You wipe the sweat from your brow.  And if your brow is like mine (the reason for the hair in a can) you need the full shamwow, you can't cut it in half.
