Free Floating Encore Forend

I have just converted my encore rifle to a pistol.  I purchased a set of boyd's laminated grip and forend.  The set up looks real nice, but I have yet to shoot it.

My question is this....Should I shoot it first to see how it performs, or should I go ahead and try to float the forend before I ever start shooting.  If so, what is the preferred method.  I think I remember reading on this forum a while back about using washers, tape, etc.

All advice is welcome and much appreciated.

i have used the folded electric tape, and it works. right now, i'm using small squares of 3m tape placed near each screw. anything to keep it from touching the barrel will work. sure you can be "professional" and use something fancy, but if it works, it works
compare both ways, and see the change in grouping. you can add a "professional" bedded job later if you like the change. with folded tape or 3m tape you will not have to get longer screws yet.

I currently have 9 Contender barrels and forends and 2 Encore barrels and forends.  I have never had to bed a single forend to make them shoot.  Try it first, might find you do not have a need even if it is just using the washers.
