Dear Guys,

The Stephens 200 (in .308) looks like a great bargain.  But, what if you want to get rid of the ugly factory synthetic stock, and upgrade it to a better synthetic stock.  Does anybody make a quality drop in for this?

In looking through my catalogues, I find good replacement stocks for the long action Savages (110, 111), but not any for the short action Savages (or Stephens).  (Maybe this is why so many folks on the boards seem to be painting their Stephens synthetic stocks instead of upgrading them?)

  Thanks for any info.

You will sure know your barrel is floated. Lots of space between a factory sporter barrel and a varmint stock. Boyd's makes a laminate that is pretty easy to final fit and finish. I like the looks of their cinnamon laminate. I don't have one, because I painted my factory stock for a coyote gun.

If you give yourself a chance to get over it that "ugly" stock actually works quite well.  Or you can always
paint it & improve the appearance a lot.

The problem with the short action Savage & Stevens is there is 3 generations of action bolt spreads & a lot of the aftermarket stocks out there are made for the models produced before 2006. I'm not completely sure, & I don't have time to look it up now, but I think that B &C stock fits the earlier version. If you do a search
on this forum, you will find where the subject has been thoroughly covered, & I'm sure someone will come in with the exact answer.  Good Luck , & let us know what you decide !   :)   Jim

I personally like the Bell& Carlson. Their Duramaxx is designed for the Savage Varmint weight barrels. Their Carbelite is for Sporter weight barrels(like the Stevens200). I have both and am satisfied with them. Go to midwayusa.com and look at their offerings in Bell&carlson stocks.
On the other hand take your barreled action out of the stock, use 440 grit sandpaper and Krylon spray paint in your choice of color and re-finish that "ugly" gray stock. My choice of color was black.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I put a Boyd's laminate stock on my Sav. 116 , one thing to remember is, it is heavier than syn.. This one is 11.2 lbs. You will have to fit any stock you buy, some more than others.
