Co-Witnessing with XS sight system

Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search didn't turn up what I was looking for.

I have a Marlin 1895G in 45/70.  I want to put the XS sight systems ghost ring sight on it and I want to be able to put a red dot scope (Vortex low mount) on it as well.  Using the XS Scout Rail, which uses the factory rear sight dovetail and the front base screw holes on the receiver, would I be able to use either/or sights.  I like the ghost ring for quick target pickup and I like the red dot for precise bullet placement from the stand.  Has anyone else tried this?  I know its pretty common on AR rifles, would it work on the Marlin?  Would also be nice to have the open sights usable with the red dot mounted for when the batteries die in the red dot when I forget to turn it off one time.  Any other solutions?

The site heights are way different between the two platforums. So unless the red dot was a quick release, to get it out of the way. No it would not work as you could not see thru the red dot to se the front site.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.  Guess I'll go with the open sights then.

Skip the red dot and go with a low power scout or pistol scope with some warne rings with D lever. They hold their zero. I worked a handload then shot a 5x group while removing the scope between shots, 1/2" group at 60 yards.

With the scope off, the open sigths are useable. I sight them in at different yardages (open sigts at 50 yards, scope at 150), so I have diffrent useable range for different huning conditions.

I HAVE THAT SETUP ON ONE OF MY 375 MARLINS..







 It dose hold zero very well and handles like a dream!!

I agree, go with a scout scope or similar, you won't be sorry.

Well today I went out to sight in my 336(35 Rem) with the XS scout mount and a 2x Leupold scout scope. Man it was going great right up to when the little stud in the rear dovetail broke letting the scope mount get loose up there. I will have to say it may have been something I did wrong but I'm not sure what it could have been. I went to the XS web site and watched the installation video and did it like they said but it broke after seven shots. I'm very disappointed, was loving the sight pictue and the accuracy. Has anyone had this problem?
