Any all help appreciated
« on: November 30, 2009, 12:28:31 AM »
Morning guys!!

I spend most of my time here on GBO over on the h&r/hand-loading areas.

I recently inherited a number of ham radios from my grandfather. I am not a ham and have no desire to become one. So I would like to sell the equipment off. My grandfather left me a couple names of guys to contact. But all have either passed away in the interim or are in no condition to do anything for them selves let alone help me.

I don't know allot about what I have. I do know much of it is good name brand products, (Icom, Kenwood) mostly all 2meters or 144 MHz. Base and mobile units as well as a couple handhelds.
Can you direct me somewhere that I can get some ideas of pricing? Is EBay a good forum for this kind of equipment? Is there classifieds here for this?

Any all help greatly appreciated!!

Here the General Classifieds would be the proper forum to sell them. For your other questions someone other than me will need to respond.

cw, ebay will give you a general idea of prices. they are usually on the hi side. check with a local ham club. most have a website nowadays. many will have a classified section  pricing will also depend on the age of the gear and condition. like i said ebay will bring you the most bucks. if i can help you out any more please drop a line back. take care and besr wishes.aa5ez

CW,

Also you can look online at some of the ham radio stores and look at prices for used equipment. Then just remember that they are normally asking top dollar so they can haggle on prices. http://www.randl.com is one place that I get stuff from. But also check with the local ham radio club.

I would try just going to one of the local ham clubs. That way you do not have to deal with shipping, yet alone have someone say they do not work and want there money back. Or you can get a hold of your local Boy Scout office and see if there is a troop that is into ham radio and  donate the rigs to them.

If you can find someone to help you test this stuff and make sure it works as it should that will be a big plus. Also I would put it on your local craigslist, I bet it will sell fast, and local.
P.S. I'm always on the look out for a good deal on ham gear. Email me with a list of what you have, mabye I'll buy some of it from you.

Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge all is in very good working order. He was using it right up till last fall. After that he was unable to get down to the radio room and we moved the handhelds to his "chair" and his newest base unit to the bedroom.

After the holidays we will revisit this. I'm still compiling information of popularity and interest. most of the stuff seems to be popular and desirable. ICOM and KENWOOD are about 95% of what he had, probably a dozen units from mobile for the car, handhelds and a couple base stations as well.
