I just bought some Black Hills .223 ammo loaded with a 52 grain hollowpoint for hunting coyotes. When I opened the box, I noticed that some of the gaping hollowpoints had material in them. I asked the gun shop owner what it was, and he said most likely crushed walnut shell used to polish the bullets. He assured me that it would not affect the accuracy. I bought the bullets (50 for 13 bucks, why not?), and now I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing. If so, did it affect accuracy? Are the hollowpoints still explosive enough to fragment the bullet completely, even if they are a little plugged? Any advice is appreciated.
