Tikka T3 Varmint SS .308
« on: December 17, 2008, 05:35:36 AM »
I posted this same topic in the Tikka forum ...

Can anyone tell me if they have stopped making this model? I have searched the internet and can now only find this same model except with a blue finished barrel instead of the stainless. The model I am trying to price is TIKKA JRTF316 T3 VARMINT SS 308. The reason I am interested is I have a trade working for one of my bolts for a Tikka T3 Varmint SS .308 that is still new in the box as the guy won it a year or so ago and never shot it. This model is not on Beretta's website yet on other sites that sell firearms, it says "out of stock."

Does anyone here own the Varmint model and if so, how do you like it? Anything negative to say?

Thank you for any info or opinions you might have.

Thanks again ms. They have quit offering the stainless version in the Varmint model and I am not sure why. I traded for the T3 Varmint SS .308 this morning and think I made a really good trade. I need to get some Talley lightweights ordered so I can get her scoped. I appreciate your interest.

I believe you will like your new Tikka. I have a Varmint in .223 & it has the SS barell. I couldn't gwt the SS in .308, so I am now the proud owner of a blued Tikka Varmint .308. Both are great rifles. poncaguy has the same .308 & it's everybit as good a gun as mine.

Thanks for your input. I drove all over the valley for two days and no one carries the Talley's that I want to try on this Tikka. I am pretty darn sure I will really enjoy this rifle as I like the .308 caliber and I like Tikka's continued success stories. Though this rifle weighs eight pounds, it feels very good and I am sure if I ever decide to carry it on a hunt, I won't have any issues. I adjusted the trigger down to 2.5lbs yesterday and it feels really good now.

I replaced the Tikka factory mounts with Werne's. I need tall ones for my scopes on both rifles. Someday, I'll find a rail to fit the Tikka's, but till' then, I have no problem with what I'm using now. The trigger is easy to adjust, & seems to be crisp & clean. Happy Shooting!

BigJeep,

If you haven't already bought the Talley's (which I have on my Tikka T3 in 30.06 and like very much) you may want to consider putting DNZ Deadnutz one piece mounts on.  I just put  one on my new T3 in .223 and don't think there could be anything more bullet proof than them.

Both mounts are great,

BeanMan ... thanks for your suggestion but I got the Talley's in the mail yesterday and just finished mounting my Sightron 4-16x42mm mildot scope on it. It looks good and sure seems really solid but only time will tell. I will probably try the dednutz setup when I get a Tikka 7mm-08.

BJM, I have Talleys on one T3 and Dednutz on the other 2, plus 6 other rifles. I stupidly got Talleys for my Weatherby Vanguard. Believe me, after trying Dednutz, I doubt you'll go back.

Where did you get your DNZ Deadnutz setups? I looked at a couple of places but never saw them as I was going to order them as the same time as the Talley's and just wait until I get my next Tikka.

You can get them direct from the company or else at a cheaper price from Midway. Just do a search, there is no a in Dednutz though. As you stated, they now call themselves DNZ, political correctness maybe? They should be about $45 a set. The low rings work for scopes up to about 44mm objective, OD.

Thanks Old English ... I must have searched using misspelled name or something as I couldn't find them for a Tikka. Now ... if I can find a 7mm-08 to trade for, I'll be in business. I am going to yet another gun show tomorrow though I have seen very few Tikka rifles there in the past.
