NEED HELP QUICK!! TAURUS OR CHARTER ARMS???
« on: February 06, 2009, 02:41:07 PM »
I JUST RECENTLY SOLD A S&W BECAUSE OF SOME MONEY ISSUES, ON A FIXED INCOME ITS GETTIN HARD TO MAKE ENDS MEET. BUT AFTER I SOLD IT I FOUND OUT MY WIFE SOLD SOME OF HER OLD ANTIQUE DO DADS I CALLEM. WELL SHE SAID WE HAVE TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF HANDGUN IN THE HOUSE FOR PROTECTION ( I HAVE SEVERAL LONG GUNS BUT MY WIFE  PREFERS THE HANDGUN) SO HERE'S MY CHOICES, I CALLED THE GUN SHOP THEY GOT EITHER A TAURUS 85 SNUBBY OR A CHARTER ARMS POLICE UNDERCOVER SNUBBY IN 38SPL. FOR $300 OTD NEW. MY WIFE WANTS ME TO GET IT TOMORROW SO THOSE ARE MY CHOICES. NOW I KNOW SOME ARE GONNA SAY SAVE A LITTLE LONGER AND GET BETTER, BUT WE DON'T SHOOT MUCH THE GUN WE GET WILL BE SHOT ABOUT 50 ROUNDS TO GET USED TO THE SIGHTS THEN IT PROBABLY WON'T BE SHOT MUCH AT ALL SO A HIGHER PRICED GUN ISN'T NEEDED. AND WE NEED THE MONEY WE WILL SAVE FOR OTHER EXSPENSES. SO WHICH ONE IS A BETTER CHOICE I'M TALKING ABOUT TRIGGER PULL, TIMING, FEEL IN THE HANDS, AND OVERAL QUALITY. THANKS

This one is easy!   ::)  As much as I hate to say it, Taurus, hands down, no question.  Just hope you don't need to deal with customer service.   :(

I own both a Taurus and Charter in .357. I'm thinking of another snubbie (DAO Concealed Hammer) as soon as the money gets here. It will likely be another Taurus. Personaly, I don't think you can do better Taurus in a snubbie. I do love my Charter 2000 Bulldog, though, & it is my ccw revolver right now. You'd be happy with either, I just think that Taurus might be slightly better. Both have liftime warrenties, I believe, and Charter is U.S. made.

Get the charter arms.  Taurus can be garbage and a gamble. Have owned both. I would go with the Charter arms if you want a cheap malfunctioning revolver. Otherwise get a Ruger.

Get the Charter. Too much of a chance you WILL need customer service and as Richard can testify Taurus got none. Better yet find a used S&W or Ruger.

sorry i ain't got back to everyone my computer been down. well i got to the shop a little late and the taurus was already gone, so i got the charter arms. its a bit bigger than the regular undercover, it holds 6 rounds. i've fired now 100 rounds thru it (normally 50 is what i shoot but i wanted to make sure it was gonna work) and its shooting great. lock up is as tight as i've seen, and charter permits regular shooting of +p in it. so i put all 100 rounds as +p, its been great. i would recomend this gun to anyone, i know it won't compete with a smith or ruger but for what i need it for its just as good. thanks to all for your help.

Actually, if you go to both Charter & S&W sites & look at the construction of their revolvers I think you will see that Charter will compare well with most any revolver. Rugers are, of course tanks. Congrats on the purchase, enjoy!! ;D

I came in here late, but let me first congratulate you on having a wife that has her priority's right!  Has she got a sister?  (kidding)
Ok, you made a wise choice for a house gun.  The Charter is a fine weapon and will serve you well.  No, not as pretty as a S&W, but that's why it costs less.  For a carry gun, I would choose the smaller 5 shot model, but that's a personal choice.
Enjoy that gun.  Yes, charter's are accurate!  Surprise, surprise.  (It's been a secret until now)
