January 7, 2009, Good Morning Montana

Good morning everyone!! I'm back home in Cut Bank.  Heard the weather report when we got up at 4 AM, sounded pretty bad. Decide to just drop the wife at the front at Great Falls Airport and the dogs and I would hightail it for home.

The outside temperature according the thermometer in the over head consule of my truck said 44 degrees.  No  problem heading out of town other than the standard for the Montana plains, intermittant swerves from the occasional breezy gust of wind.  Not much traffic on I-15 at 5:30 in the morning and the road was clear of snow and ice/.

I started down a hill just north Brady when the thermometer started flashing.  I looked  upo at it and it dropped from the mid 40's  to 31 degrees in about 100 yards. Drifts and ice suddenly were every where.  This went on for about 1/2 a mile when the thermometer started flashing again. I looked up and it was climbing back up to 46 degrees.  Stayed that all the way to Shelby.  As I headed west out of Shelby the thermometer dumped again asl the way down to 21 degrees, then climbed back up to the low 30's where it stayed until I got home.   It's in the 40's and windy right now.

Never a dull moment living ion Montana.

Sounds like a normal day in Montana in the winter, unless it's different. ;D  That's why it's nice to live here, never know what will happen.  Warm and melting like crazy in Billings today, all the snow we had last night is gone and more.  May get rid of some of the ice ruts on the side streets, they are talking about over 50 tomarrow!  Now where is my suntan lotion?  DP
