Activ Shotshells - Anyone use them?
« on: October 25, 2009, 01:11:00 PM »
I recently acquired about 250 12 gauge Activ shotshells. Many are brand new in these little Activ reloading kits with wads. About half have exterior writing in black and the other half has writing in blue. They look nice and I'm thinking about loading them for CAS, so I was wondering how they load & shoot, and if there's anything special about them I should know. They're all plastic with no brass. I got a few bags of Active wads as well. I searched the web but didn't find much except that they're not made anymore. Thanks for any insight provided. Brett

I used to load them when they were available. They do have a thin metal disk in the base rim. I never used ACTIV wads just used RP or WW wads in them. I sure wish they hadn't gone out of business their 12 ga. 3" mag with a full two ounces of shot was one wicked turkey load and dropped crows like a death ray.

I still load them have several thousand they crimp great and there pressure is lower then most other hulls.

I you want some loads let me know what you are looking to load like powder and what activ wad number you have I have a older loading book that has 3-4 pages on activ hulls.

I don't have the 4th edition so if anyone wants to copy those pages that would be cool. I'll pay the shipping or maybe your copier at work can do email like ours can. If that's the case email them to me at fishteach@roadrunner.com. Thanks.

I still have 2 full boxes of 3", 1-7/8 ounce no. 2 shot ACTIV shot shells.

In my humble opinion, that is all my 12 ga. home defense shotgun needs.

I still have some ACTIVE "hulls" and wads in 16ga. I haven't reloaded any for many years since I was able to get Winchester "stuff" in that gauge. Thanks for reminding me :); they always worked well in the "field" and were easy to load, even in a Lee "Load All".
