Guns- Kids- love affair

I am old now but when I was a kid we shot rabbits and squirrels so we could eat. We were poor but we did not know it!  Of course my rifle and shotgun were both single shots and my shotgun was a Montgomerly Ward with a 36" barrel that must have weighed 10 lbs.  Here in Kansas when we had a blizzard and school was closed my father and I went out and did our thing with rabbits.  Growing up we eventually acquired a 22 Remington automatic and when I was 15 my father bought a Browing 98 Mauser in a .270 and we were then really you what in tall cotton.  I had as much fun cleaning and loving on these guns as I did hunting or killing anything.  In other words it was a "love affair" with guns that many times exhibited itself in just looking at them and feeling proud to own them.  Question--Do the kids or yonger generation share any of this or do they view firearms as something you break out during hunting season and then store them dirty waiting for next fall?  Is there that connection that us old guys have with firearms? If so good--if not what can we do to install this feeling so as to be assured we (they) will have guns forever!

I think some of us play our parts more then others ... My lil girl ( 3) has been wanting her own " boom boom" for a while now but I have told her she has to get a little older .. Long story short me and the missus picked up a air soft MP5 ( because of the collapsing stock to fit her little frame ) to help her learn proper muzzle control... Those 6mm plastic pellets are not nearly as effective at penetration as say a bb ,lead pellet or 22lr round ... But they sure hurt like hell at 180 fps .. So far she has been real happy to shoot it and i dont know what it is , but Full Auto even to a 3 year old puts a ear to ear smile on their face  ;D  Yeah yeah does it to me and my other half as well , Pretty cool toys they have out there now days heh

  She also already helps me in the reloading room with little this's and thats , Definately well on her way to becoming a future gunnie ... I forsee a future hunting bud in the making  ;)
