springer not cocking
« on: September 20, 2007, 07:04:47 AM »
I have a springer that I shoot in my garage. It is a BSA Lightning XL.
I picked it up the other night to do some shooting and the darn thing will not cock. It appears to have good spring tension and is smooth, no rough or crunching sound or feel.
The trigger will not reset.
I adjusted the trigger thinking it might be set too light but that is not the problem.
The rifle was shooting fine the last time I used it.
Can someone suggest some things to check, short of sending it off to have it repaired.
I hate the idea of shipping guns. Damage etc..
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

ice,

It sounds like the sear is not engaging. Could be a spring has come undone in the trigger. It also may be the trigger is not making a good hook up with the piston. Here is a link to diagram of how it works. The diagram is not of a BSA, but prinicable is the same.

Good luck!

UpDate; found the problem. It was the anti bear trap wire causing the problem.
Fixed.
