a laser and surival

Not being high tech i just got a laser sight . It is impressive how well they work. I realize the battery will need replacing and could pose a problem with long term storage BUT in a case where one was running from a storm or damage caused by such it seems a laser sighted hand gun with it enhanced hit potential could serve the duty of a long gun and be both easier to transport and conceal if legal to do so while moving .
I realize the power of a long gun won't be equaled but to take small game or protection it seems like a good trade for someone moving and not wishing to alarm or draw attention .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

What type of gun are you thinking about? I personally don't trust anything that requires batteries on a gun. With the possibility of low batteries, damage or other failure, I would rather invest my time in practicing with quality open sights. On my "emergency guns",  I don't trust a scope unless it is backed by iron sights. I prefer open sights, whether on a rifle or handgun, since there is a lower chance of them being damaged. With practice, a good iron sighted big bore revolver can be very accurate at long range and reduced loads will work for small game.

what happened my son put one on a 17 hmr. rifle and it worked so i tried one on a j frame S&W 38 cal. and it works good . What happened is it allowed a gun for short range almost contact distance useful to hit at longer ranges quicker . If say you had a 3-4 inch 22mag. with good sights and a laser would it be a good small game getter ? maybe a deer at short range if need . I agree about the failure but short term or with extra battires and luck it might work. It would be easier "have" than a rifle in some areas .
