Dan Wesson 357 MAX
« on: July 02, 2003, 08:05:27 PM »
Greetings one and all.  I just purchased a SS D/W scoped 357 Max. revolver...with eight inch barrell.
I do not know the model...other than it being called 'Supermax'..and I would like info about this revolver..and possible sites to find a ten inch barrell.  I have a D/W I bought from the USAF days (1973) and have enjoyed it..but I am now looking to hunting deer with this one.  I had a 'custom made' '94' Winchester modified to shoot 357 max..and hence..my interest in this cartriged handgun.  Any help...much appreciated!    Jim

jwwebb,
I get most of my barrels and stuff either from
gunbroker.com
auctionarms.com
ebay.com
There is a DW distibutor named:
Mike Rowles <dw7360@netscape.net>
He claims to offer DW barrels at 10% off what the factory sells them for.  I am in the process of buying a 445 Supermag barrel shroud from him, so I can let you know how it goes if you are interested.  Of course you can always buy from the factory at:

I am very interested in your Winchester mdification.  What had to be done to the rifle to allow it to shoot the 357 Supermag?  I have been VERY INTERESTED in getting a Winchester '94 modified to shoot the 445 Supermag which is the same length case as the 357 Supermag.  I was hoping I could just get a Winchester 94 in 44Mag and lengthen the chamber and modify the catridge lifter, but I am not sure that is all there is to it.  If you could tell me the process you went through or sources for gunsmiths or parts I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Roll Tide

I have a DW 740V8S also.  (Stainless 357 super mag with 8" barrel).  I have a feeling it will get a little more lop-sided (top-heavy, thougher to hold, etc) putting 2 more inches out front.  It is heavy enough and plenty accurate enough to hunt deer, elk, etc the way it is.

Just my $.02.

I am with rolltide I would also like to hear how you got the supermag in a win 94 big bore.  That would just be the ultimate companion to my Dan Wesson 445 supermag.
