There was at least one feller that did that but I lost his address many years ago.   :-\  Haven't thought about it since I found out how rare the MN I have is...  ;D

I do not think you can open the bolt face up enough on the Nagant, though I am not sure.I know from experience you can use the Siamese.ER SHAW did my barrel/action work.It is a 25" stainless 3.5 contour.

Actually you can use the origional case to make a variety of cartridges. There was an article in a back issueof gun digest that went into some detail regarding this. I believe that they had 6.5, 7mm, 8mm, 9.3, and maybe 9.5mm cartridges bases on the 7.62x54R case. Don't know how big you can go without any mods to the magazine though. There was a russian medev cartridge in 9.3 caliber (.366 dia bullets) and the 9.5 used .375 dia bullets. Hope this helps. Frank

I know the feed through the bottom of the action would have to be opened up to get the .45 bullet through it.  If the case head diameter and length is OK then it could be done.  Could be a fun and cheap project.  Larry

This might be of interest to you...

A friend of mine has one of the Gibbs Enfield carbines. He says it kicks quite a bit with heavy stuff, but is fun and manageable with black powder loads and lighter bullets.

I seem to recall that conversion of Siamese Mausers to .45-70 was fairly standard thing to do, and that about 10 years ago, a company that advertised in Rifle Shooter was doing alot of these.

I think Gibbs is doing this with Enfields, but alot of the stuff like this that Gibbs sells have feeding problems.  I would thoroughly research the feeding issues before buying one of these.

Extensive alteration of the magazine would be required for the 45-70 case to fit in it and feed.  More than likely not cost effective.  Numerous inquiries on this but haven't heard of anyone attempting the conversion.

Yea, and if you end up with a heavy mauser rifle, that can only fire the .45-70 as a single shot, you are a heck of a lot better off money wise to just buy a Handi-Rifle.  This would probably save you at least $800!
