6.5X47mm Lapua

Just looking at a May/June rifle shooter  with a very good 6.5X47 lapua article. Basically, it has the same traj. & wind drift with match bullets as a 300WM with 190gr. match bullets, sometimes a hair better. I have seen that with the 260 as well & in the past I had thought of re-barreling my 308VS & work up matching
traj. loads with my 300WM & be done with it, but that would make it tough to justify alot of my other rifles, so probably not.

I understand the Marine Corp is looking at it as a replacement for the 7.62mm in the m-24 sniper rifle. I guess I don't see what it offers over the .260 Remington.

Coyote Joe, I can agree, except good quality factory ammo is not easily found in 260, that could change.....the 47 and the Creed both have good ammo, the 47 ammo likely would meet the 'regs' for type of bullet it uses for warfare, a match hp via Lapua.  The Creed has amax's.

Coyote thats the thing about this round I found interesting.  It performs as well as if not better in a shorter piece of brass.

6.5, if the Marines start using it, well...   .45-70, 30-06, .308, .223, .45Colt, .45ACP...  I think you can see what I 'm getting at.

Nomo, YEAH!  Great ballistics!  Everything I've read has amazing results for performance all the way down range.  A lot of rounds peter off fairly quickly in either energy or velosity or both.  This one seems to hold up well in both.

Yes, it has VERY strong brass & can be loaded to higher pressures (but safe) than usually done & still have good case life. The European ammo is warm as well. The 260 brass if loaded to same pressures has poor case life. It's a good setup with good actions.
