Puma 92 .454 Casull- Worth Keeping?
« on: June 29, 2008, 03:15:34 AM »
Somehow yesterday I traded a bunch of "stuff" I had for a neighbors .454 Casull Puma. NIB, never fired. Gun is supposedly about 2 years old. I just got rid of all of my 454 Casull stuff and didn't really need another, but just couldn't turn down the no cash required deal he offered me.
Anybody here use one of these?
Will it cycle 45 Colt rounds reliably?
Scope Mounting: Does the scout mount work well with this gun?
Worth keeping or trade fodder?

Thanks

alan

I appreciate the offer, but to keep in the spirit of this forum I will post it in the classifieds and let everyone have a shot at it.
Depending on what folks say about the gun, I may sell some other stuff to resupply my 454 casull loading and keep it.

Thanks

I've got one and love it.  Runs 45 colts as well as the 454's.  Light, Handy and Hell for Stout!  You should be able to mount a scout setup for the scope, I'm going to try it.  Have that setup on 2 other rifles and like them, just have to locate the right mount.  I also like the option of dropping the rounds into the tube as opposed to pushing them in the loading gate.  Run it through it's paces and I think you will wind up keeping the rifle.  Mine feeds everything from RN Cowboy loads up through HOT 310g Keith SWC's as well as 454's, and is quite accurate.  If you need to they can be slicked up easy as well, mine is better than the 44mag and 357mag that I also have that are Puma.  Another plus is the magazine tube is threaded into the receiver on the 454 and 480 so no problems with the tube backing out from the recoil.  Think of it as a thin, attractive, faithfull wife that won't let you down. ;D  DP.

I think I would keep it.  I like the idea of the 454 in a lever.  It is on my list of if I find one at a gun show for the right price it will go home with me.  Unfortunately, that list keeps growing.

I bought mine as a mini 45-70, too. I have not shot it yet, though.

I have a 44 mag version and I would hate to let it go.  These guns are just so light, handy & powerful.  I put mine through it's paces last weekend and it was great.  My gets smoother everytime I go to the range and I couldn't be happier with it.

I have two, the 454 Casull and 480 Ruger... would not ever trade/sell either one.

I have one and love it.  I bought it for when I go fishing, and walking the trails in case a bear decides they want the trail more than I do.

I call it "Thumper" - shoot some full house 360grn lead GC's out of it, and you'll see why they put the recoil pad on there!!   :o

W/ normal 454's, it's a joy to shoot.

Hi tn,

I loves my Pumas.  I have a .357 and a .454.  Both have Williams peep sights and they shoot great.  If you try full house .454 loads like Cor-Bon or stiff hand loads, it will get you on both ends!  I guess it is a mini .45-70.

Tn - Do you still have the Puma 454? What does it like for bullets? Is it the same one Legacy Sports is advertising now? I was toying with a stable mate for my Blackhawk 45Colt.
Your thoughts?

I never fired the gun. Ended up selling it to another member (DSCP). Maybe he can give you some feedback.
