Anybody have a Ruger 22/45 Mark III ? I was thinking about getting one.Don't have a .22 pistol.I think I would like it,mainly because the grip is like a 1911.....Rick

I have a couple of MKII 22/45's and they are solid accurate pistols.  Some people prefer the MKII over the MKIII because Ruger added the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect to the MKIII's.

Another pistol worth consideration is the Buck Mark.  It has the grip angle and controls located much the same as a 1911.  It also has the added capability of changing grips without having to modify the frame...........chim

I have the 5.5 inch target model adjustable sights,  I like it!  Some don't like the grip, you can buy a sleave for it, but otherwise very difficult to modify.  Best to handle before you buy.  Like I said I have been very happy with mine!  Now to get a .22 revolver!!

Just so happens I just walked in the door with a new one, added the Hogue grip sleeve and it feels good. Traded in a Buckmark, too big and bulky for camping wear, it was accurate but  I like the Ruger better and it will fit better with my MK I and MK II already in the safe.Soon as the snow clears I'm going to shoot the heck out of it.

I apoligize if this is would be considered inappropriate for a first time time post as I mostly read posts gaining good incite into the handguns I own or dream about but I agree with mjh and would strongly recommend you try out a 22/45, a mk III and a buckmark before buying.

I purchased a 22/45 without really shooting one, seemed to make great sense until I got my hands on a buckmark. Now the 22/45 is going to be sold.

I found both to be great shooters, the Buckmark just fit my grip better.

Best of Luck

I own two mkll 22/45s. Great little pistols for the money. The mklll models have a few features that really turn me off! All the loaded chamber indicator does is provide another opening for debris to enter the action. The magazine disconnect serves no purpose other than adding another step to assembly/disassembly, and making an otherwise "ok" trigger into a poor one. If I owned one, the first order of business would be to eliminate the mag disconnect. I see a few Buckmarks at plate matches, but have no first hand experience with them. If I were considering another .22 pistol, I'd give them a look before buying the mklll.

I have a 4" Bull Barrel Ruger MKIII 22/45 and it is fast becoming my favorite packin pistol.

However mine has been modified to suit my needs.

The first thing I did was have my gunsmith mill off the raised portion of the grip panels that simulated grips. Once milled off flat we then drileld 4 holes (2 in each side) of the grip frame and screwed in 1911 Grip Screw Bushings. Once all this was done I added the Hogue Rugger Finger Groove 1911 Grips.

I then replaced the front sight with a HiViz Fiber Optic Front Sight. When I bought my HiViz Fiber Optic Front Sight I also ordered all the different color inserts they had available in all the sizes they offered. In the end I much prefer the largest green insert.

Next up I replaced the Factory Ruger Trigger with a Clark Custom Guns Steel Ruger Trigger. These triggers come slightly oversized in width at the pivot point so they can be fitted to the individual frame to eliminate the side to side play common with the Ruger Factory Aluminum Trigger.

Next up I replaced the factory sear with a Volquartsen Custom Target Sear. At the same time I also polished up the engagement surface on the Factory Ruger Hammer and made a couple of washers to eliminate the Magazine Disconnect Safety.

The end result is a super handling Handgun with grips that feel great in my hands. I have a super crisp trigger that at slightly under 2 pounds is totally safe in my hands.

I just so happens that this Ruger fits quite well in an Uncle Mikes Kydex Paddle Holster that I use for my Kimber 1911. When I am out and about spending time in the outdoors generally my 4" Bull Barrel Ruger MKIII 22/45 is with me. Yep I made a $260.00 handgun into a $360.00 Handgun but it now suits my needs much better.
