Price check on GP100
« on: December 24, 2008, 12:30:21 AM »
If you read my post in Handgun Hunting I am looking for a 357, GP100 for general purpose target shooting and deer hunting in Ohio. I have been looking for a used Ruger GP100 6", without much luck. New they are about $469-489 around here, blued with rubber grip, half shroud, adjustable rear sight. I stopped in a local gun store today upon the recommendation of a friend who has bought a lot of firearms from this store. While the owner didn't have a used one he had the new one described above for $469.  He thinks he can find a used one, good condition someplace in the $300-400 range since he frequently gets these in the store on trade. He seemed honest and helpful as we discussed different options and he is highly recommended by my friend. Does that price sound about right? Thanks.

I purchased a new GP100, blued, 6" half shroud in September for $400.00. Haven't been to any gun shops recently so I don't know if they've gone up to the $469-$489 you're seeing or if $400 is still the price in the Portland OR area.

the exact same gun here at Cabelas was $489, the $469 one was from the private gun shop but the grips were different more like molded rubber with finger grips. At $400 you got a good deal compared to our price range here.

too far Bob! I am up in the N. Central area just south of Youngstown and due East of Columbus...Steubenville...home of Dean Martin and Jimmy the Greek!

I think if my local gun store owner can get one in the $350-400 range I will be satisfied. What do you think about that price? Should be a good gun though, well taken care of for that price.

Thats not bad they are really going up in price. I bought mine new several years ago for $368.00 you can't buy a used one for that anywhere hardly. They are a great revolver thou, I have 8 or 10 thousand rounds thru mine with never a problem. The thing is the Abrams tank of the pistol world, If I do my parts it will bust clays at 100 yards easy. It has also accounted for several deer, so if you can find one for 400 or less I think I would buy it. 8)

I bought and sold a used one for about $350.  They really are one heck of a handgun.  At $400 it's a no-brainer to buy one.

howdy yall hope you don't mind my chimin in.  i got a gp (4 in bbl) 9 years ago for 400, they are going up now from what i have seen in my area.  mine has accounted for several hogs and been through some stuff.  i got the stainless 4" for the father in law for 200 but it was an estate sale and the cylinder latch pivot spring had been put in wrong, so the seller thought it was broke.  even a used one in good condition will be close to 400 right now, given the circumstances.

I ended up going another route: a friend sold me his S&W Model 66-2, SS, 6in. barrel, factory wood grips for $375. Couldn't pass that one up even though I originally wanted the GP100!

That's a pretty good price on a S&W 66. A few years back I was on the hunt for one and had been having no luck at all even finding one for sale at any price. When I finally found it $450 was as low as the guy would go. Needless to say it still came home with me.
