Happy Birthday!
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:40:54 PM »
Today is RE Lee's birthday and its also a day when we, as southerners, celebrate Lee and Jackson. So on that note I say we post any and all tidbits we can find about Lee and/or Jackson in this post to honor them today. ;)

As a side note its also my moms birthday. God bless and keep you mom may you rest in peace; you are not forgotten and we love and miss you still.

Wow, No one has posted.

Ok, I'll start this off by saying that although EVERYONE refers to this man as Robert E. Lee; in his life time he and no one in his family did so. He always signed off as RE Lee to his wife, children and his friends.

One of his sisters NEVER spoke to him after he defected to the Southern cause; she remained on the Northern side til her dying day.

Just what do you think his friends called him? Bob? Or maybe RE?

Here is a great link to Bobby Lee and his history.

You'll find some names there. Also his Daughter got arrested in 1907 for breaking a Jim Crow law! :D

I wouldn't feel comfortable calling Marse Robert, Bobby Lee.

This man is a jewel among men; another quote:

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/leefoundation/About%20the%20General.htm

Quote
They do not know what they say. If it came to a conflict of arms, the war will last at least four years. Northern politicians will not appreciate the determination and pluck of the South, and Southern politicians do not appreciate the numbers, resources, and patient perseverance of the North. Both sides forget that we are all Americans. I foresee that our country will pass through a terrible ordeal, a necessary expiation, perhaps, for our national sins.

In 2000 the state of VA moved Lee Jackson day to last Friday so it would not conflict with MLK jr. day.  So look at it as LEE - Jackson day is now a 4 day weekend.

The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson
