45-120 draws blood! (and not from me!)
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:01:58 PM »
As far as I remember this is the first animal taken with my 45-120 but the recoil leaves me not remembering the next couple days so I'm not 100%

Big possum at close range took a 405 grain bullet going about 2550 fps

Put this big hole in 1/2" tough steel.  338 Lapua didn't make it through!  Thats what the painted over dents are from.

oh my :o looks like jelly.  jed, time 4 sum vittles, possum stew.  I know that gun has got to have more recoil than my 45/70.

Ty, was that 405 gr LEAD that did in that plate, or a solid of some type?

Crazy what it did to that opossum.  Thanks for the pics.

In MHO 45-120 is a little bit over kill on  a possum, But you did away with

Good shooting!

That's nothing, I see that all the time around here, but usually it's done with an eighteen wheeler! ;D ;D ;D

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Remington 405 grain soft point for both escapades.  It expands readily.

Glad to see you used enough gun for that possum. I hear they charge when they're wounded.

Next time add some pepper and salt to your powder and you'll be ready to grill it. ;D
