38/55 Q & A
« on: January 17, 2009, 12:36:47 PM »
Finally got dies for my 38/55.. Win. factory ammo key holed every shot.. Read on Graybeard  I think about large bores and tight chambers.. I tried reloading the Win. brass with a Lazer Cast 380. bullet.. Would not fully chamber as I had heard.. I ordered some Starline 2.80 brass which I heard has thinner walls.. Well that was the ticket.. Loaded Win. factory ammo measured 3.92 and my loads in Win. brass with the 380. bullet measured 3.96.. With the Starline brass 3.93.. Gun now opens and closes slicker than snot.. My question part is I have a can of 3031 and am looking for a load with the 240 grain bullet.. I have read to start with 26 grains.. As being fairly new to reloading how does that sound? Any help would be appreciated. Rick Ps. Hats of the the guys at Buffalo Arms.. Great service and super fast delivery..

IMR 3031 with a soft cast bullet 255 grain using 32 grains of 3031
I would go with 26.0 grains and work up
IMR 3031 is outstanding in my 38-55 BC.

38-55 W&H Target Classic:  Load 39.8 grains Swiss FFF, .030 vegtable wad, Starline brass @ 2.125, fitting a 265 grain RNFP soft lead .381 dia bullet lubed with SPG finished to 2.650" O/A......hehehehehehehehe ;D ;D ;D.  Just having a little fun ;D ;D, but you would find out that your rifle will shoot black powder right up there with the high priced rifles  ;D ;D ;D
