Savage Edge
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:58:55 AM »
:D Well I played with this the last 2 months and finally bought the edge last week. The only thing i do not like about this rifle is the trigger. breaks at a clean 4 1/2 to 5 lbs. Still this rifle will drive tacks. I was using 62 grain SP ammo and was getting 3/4 inch groups on a consistent basis. The first thing i did was put a 3-15X50 Pentax Gameseeker 5x scope on it and all I can say is what a great clear scope it is. I have my dog and p. rat rifle it's a nice fit with my H&R Ultra Varmint Fluted which is a real tack driver in it's own right. Great gun for $ 279.99 just wish that savage would put a better trigger on this rifle.  Jess

If I'm not mistaken I believe they are making aftermarket triggers for the edge now, it may also be listed as the Axis.

I was told that the Edge trigger is just the old Savage trigger and if it is it is adjustable. They don`t make bench triggers, but you can make a good hunting trigger out of them.

:P No this is new trigger group and is non adjustable and can not be worked on according to our local gunsmith, no replacements either that I can find. Still shoots well put it does need a better trigger. Jess

The new Edge trigger can be worked on, just not as easy to do.  Like old trigger, has a spring that can be lightened or replaced....but it is a coil spring instead of a straight wire spring which complicates the work.  Some have removed the coil spring and snipped off parts of the coils to lighten trigger pull.  I went to my local Ace hardware store and found a thinner/weaker coil spring that I could use to make a replacement coil spring.  The Ace spring was correct diameter at top but wrong size at the bottom which is end that fit into trigger part.  My solution was to JB Weld just the shank of a woodscrew inside bottom of spring that fit hole in trigger.   I also polished the trigger sear and notch on trigger part the trigger sear engages.  When finished I had a trigger pull between 3-3 1/2 lbs.

I talked to SharpShooter Supply (who IMHO makes the best Savage/Stevens trigger available) yesterday. They have NO plans for an Edge/Axis trigger.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!
IF YOU'RE GONNA GET OLD,YOU BETTER BE TOUGH!! GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!!
