Pics of Winchester 88 I just bought
« on: November 15, 2008, 02:42:15 PM »
This is the Winchester Model 88 in .243 caliber I picked it up from the gun shop today.  It has a Redfield 3-9 Widefield scope with rangefinder.  I paid $595.  It shows some wear but is in good shape.  I plan to change the base and rings and maybe hunt with it next week. Thanks for looking.

Good looking post 64 Win 88.  Remember not to dry fire these rifles without using a spent round first or snap caps.  I had to send mine back to the factory twice for broken firing pins.  The last time I understand a modified and improved pin was installed and haven't had another pin break since then.  Win did however break my custom Fajin stock and replaced it with the same stock as your rifle at no cost, even though mine was a pre 64 88.  I sure wish I had the Fajin stock as the fit was much better than the factory stocks for me.

I too have the same post-64 model 88. With the right ammo, mine will put three rounds into an inch at 100 yards. Great gun.

Very Nice rifle.  Years ago I had one in .358.  Sold it, and still kick my self....

TR,

That's a nice looking rig and a good buy.  The scope is worth $150 easy.  I'll give you your money back for all of it if you want!  I bought an 88 in .308 without a scope at a gun show here in Houston last year for $450 drive out because I always wanted one.  It did not have a scope so I mounted a good 3 x 9 and it shoots 1" or less all day with Federal Fusion 150 gr. ammo.  The trigger is tough but it shoots fine so I won't mess with it.  Mine is a pre-64 with a very low serial #, but the stock is beat up with a pad added, so it's not a collector.  The bluing had some spots on it, but cold blue worked wonders.  As many rifles as I own and shoot, this one surprised me in the accuracy.  Hope yours is the same.  I am envious!

Congrats, that's a nice 88!
My Dad has the same one in .243 Just installed a new scope on it for him. If you don't reload try an assortment of different ammo, his was as picky as a .22, but once you find what it likes it's a tack driver.
