I got a 12 gauge USH in an SB2 frame.  I am happy with it.

Hope this helps

That is an sb2 shotgun frame which is different than a sb2 rifle frame.

??? As far as I know an SB2 is an SB2... The SB1 is the shotgun frame. Its skeletonized and of ductile Iron construction. Different from a strength stand point, definitely. Barrels still fit either or though, almost interchangeably.

IIRC my USH12 was a SB2, I haven't had the stocks off the USH20 to know for sure.....

The SB2 10ga frame is heat treated investment cast alloy, similar to the SB2 rifle frame, but it's not the same frame, the opening in the frame is wider for the 1.2" barrel swell of the 10ga shotgun and 12ga USH barrels, regular barrels are ~.100 smaller at 1.1", it isn't as strong as an SB2 rifle frame due to the much thinner side walls since the outside dimensions of the SB2 shotgun frame are the same.

Thanks Tim!!
If coarse I knew that the outsides where the same. Otherwise the butt stocks and forends would not interchange...

I didn't even think, how they got the larger 10Ga barrels to fit. Obviously, the 10 is bigger...  ::) ::) Its receiver only weaker because of less material overall, NOT because of construction materials. As is the the case with SB1 and SB2 frames.

Actual strength is another mystery, there's obviously less material there, but the heat treating and alloy used isn't known, H&R has never shared that info with anyone other than what's been said here, basically other than SB1 = ductile iron = cast iron, and SB2 = heat treated alloy steel.

I bought my USH for a rifle project, but after seeing it and the thin frame sides, and realizing the firing pin issue, decided it wasn't worth the expense of making a barrel for it, the 6.5mm Shilen match blank was just right to have it turned down slightly to fit the SB2 USH frame, but I ended up having a stubbed 6.5x55 done on an SB2 rifle frame instead.

The USH is now the platform for the 22 Hornet adapter Larry made, talk about a BULL barrel!!  :o ;D
