Bulding an 22 250 Encore 16.5 Carbine Barrel

I am Looking to Build an 16.5 Encore Barrel .

 I have an 22 250   24 in  Rifle Barrel  an A  22 250   14 in Pistol Barrel .


First I could Cut the  24 in Rifle Barrel Down to an 16.5.

But Changing the Twist Rate  will it hurt my  1/2 Group I am Getint out of the Barrel wright now .






Our I could Add    2  1/2  in  to my  22 250 Pistol Barrel  with an Muzzle Brake  an Weld It up where it will  come off .

Have any Did this Before or do you know about this Working  out with an 16.5 Carbine Barrel  Buy cut Down an Rifle Barrel Or Adding To an Pistil Barrel .


I  would like to have one For Spring Coyote Hunting .

I am Looking to have an Gun smith work on My Barrel .

How are you thinking to change your twist rate?  Chopping of a barrel won't do that.  It could affect accuracy by changing harmonics, or if it has a problem with the new crown.  But unless you re-rifle it the twist rate stays the same.

I suppose he meant that the shorter barrel would result in lower muzzle velocity, thus slowing the twist rate of the bullet in flight, and in this case, depending on the bullet and load, accuracy could be effected.  I've also thought about a 16 inch .22-250.  I think it would be tons of fun.  Let us know how it goes.  I want a full report.

Should not be a problem. I did the same to my factory 25-06  it does great. The accuracy may have improved a bit. In any case you will love the feel of the gun being so short, it is by far the handiest quickest handling piece in my collection. Shoot me an email if you would like a pic. Many a game has fallen over the lat couple of years to what i have coined the huckle hammer.

It doesn't matter how short you cut the barrel, but unless you bore out the rifle, then sleave it, then re-rifle it, the twist rate will never change.

The velocity of the bullet may change....and it may not bring the velocity of the bullet to a sufficient speed to stabilize it if the barrel is too short.

I acquired a 17 inch 223 Rem barrel in a swap on this site.   It's a SS Virgin Valley Encore barrel.  Turns out the barrel had a bad chamber (that's why it was traded to me).  So I ended up rechambering the barrel to 22-250 and now it works great.  It just looks a little too short on the Encore frame.

i have a .223 barrel cut to 18in very easy to handle and one of favorites i the acuracy hasnt changed much at all.I also have a 22-250 I may end up with it cut as well..

Personally I have always thought that trying to make pistol barrels longer was kind of hoaky (and most of them look hoaky), so my choice would be to shorten the rifle barrel.   YMMV.

You'll change the rifle barrels harmonics greatly by cutting almost 8" off of it, and loose considerable velocity.   So you'll need to start over fresh working up and finding a load for it.

I was given an Encore with the 209x50 barrel for my Birthday a few years ago. Before I even shot the gun, I contacted TC customer service concerning TC barrels. They suggested Fox Ridge.
I talked with Fox Ridge concerning the shortest barrel length for medium yardage shots (up to say 250 yards). This is what they suggested: 243 at 18" ~~ 270 at 18" ~~ 209x50 at 22 1/2".
I wanted all the barrels at 18", but they told me that would not work for the 209x50 and maintain the yardage accuarcy that I was wanting.
I took the 28" 209x50 back and got my money back. Called Fox Ridge and they made the barrels I mention above and they all are good shooters. I hunt with these barrels and they do well.

You may benifit by speaking with them on 16.5 versus 18". I don't know, just forwarding what they told me when I spent my money.

That is why They are 18 an Knot 16.5
