Coyote Season in Missouri . Anyone had a tuff year ?
« on: February 16, 2011, 10:04:24 AM »
I have been hunting coyotes for a long time.   Have been in Missouri for about 20 years...hunted coyotes for 15 here..
.... while deer seem to be on the increase in SE MO.....everything else , except hawks turtles, and armadillos, and skunks, seem to be on the decline.

I have not seen a pack of coyotes this entire winter........only called in 1.     1     that means , for me, alt of shutout weekends,    lots of hings not responding to the call   Just wondered if anyone else has had a great year, or a n average year, or like me.....almost baitting .000      Just wondering.

I have not been hunting them but I had a few hunting me back during bow season. Had them howling all around me. I packed up and got out before it got too dark.I hunt around pemiscott and New Madrid counties, and see them every where! There is one dead on the side of the road right now less than a mile from my house. I think they are following the snow geese flocks right now and picking off the injured.

I've seen tracks and poop during deer season, but not had them NEAR me except once during the pre-light hours during doe season.  I would LIKE to hunt them this weekend, I'll be right south of sedalia off u-highway.  any sightings in that area

I have pretty much folded the tent on them ,     they'll be denning and dropping pups soon......the season ends , then reopens in May I think....great thing about Missouri.........no turtles are legal to shoot, and there are a blue Million of them everywhere.......you cant FIND a covey of quail...........but sure, go ahead shoot away........limit is still the same ....even though there are none.......shoot away.........Redtail hawks eat their share, as do the coyotes and bobcats, of the few quail left............I drove to Memphis about a month ago from SE Missouri.......I bet I counted 120 red tailed hawks and other raptors, sitting on about every 4th fence post........they are everywhere..............cant shoot them though ........they are protected..........when did the Obama administation take over Missouri Department of Conservation ?

Soon, we will have millions of turtles, millions of hawks......( all protected of course) ...hope the hawks can figure out how to eat the turtles and armadilos......that is about all that is left..............oh yeah ...I forgot the skunks and oppossums.....

I went awhile back and heard them from three different directions, the closest was probably less than 100yds away, but after sun-up NOTHING!  Maybe the ones near sedalia are hunted enough to wise up?
