looking for coyotejoe psl question
« on: November 18, 2009, 06:55:40 PM »
coyotejoe had a question about how you case hardened the trigger and hammer. I also might be able to help you out with smoothing out the action. I bought my romanian psl from the trading post on 11/11/2009 took it to pops I shot 1.5 inch groups with it at 100 yards. Although the gun is accurate I took it apart because the bolt carrier clunked, a bullet lodged outside left of chamber and trunnion, one case stovepiped and did not expect the gun came with a three stage trigger. I then stripped it down and studied its functions over several days and many hours. Blood shot eyes from magnafying the roughly refurbished parts. I then lay file, fine sandpaper, and finally polishing compound to the trouble areas the gun now functions like a mauser, the action is smooth no more clunks and the trigger works nice, there is some travel to it but I can almost feel a breaking point on it now. Although I have not shot it after stripping it down examining and re / remanufacturing it. I feel confident that the groups will improve.   P.S. pops shot it prior to rebuild he grouped about 1.5 inch too. He also looked at me like I had two heads when he saw it but after he shot he understood this is one nasty gun.  If interested I'll keep you posted.

I went through the trigger system and, like you, I did some reshaping and smoothing. I casehardened parts because I found them dead soft, like a nail, and doubted my trigger job would hold for long. I just used "casinit" and a welding torch to put a skin on the soft steel. I really haven't shot the PSL much lately, I just rather quickly lost interest in it because I never did get very good accuracy, not good enough to justify the weight and bulk of the rifle, and the scope is a POS, which I think does hamper accuracy. Now what to do with 400 rounds of Czech 147 grain military ammo?
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
