Bit by the bug!
« on: January 15, 2009, 06:15:19 PM »
Ouch!!!  I sent off for my C&R application back in November.  I thought the ATF was ignoring me...then I got the app in the mail last week.  Filled it out and sent it back the next day!  I just checked my credit card statement and I see where the ATF in DC took $30!  I'm hoping to find my C&R license in the mail tomorrow when I get home from my business trip???  Has anyone out there recently gotten a C&R license?  How long after the money was taken from the account did it take for the license to come???  I'm hoping to start buying up the nagants, K31s and whatever else I can pick up cheap!

For what it is worth, I think that mine took a total of 4 weeks from the time that I mailed the app.

Best $30 I ever spent.  I saved that much in the first year with discounts at Brownells and MidwayUSA.  Midway's discount is pretty thin now.....but, hey, a discount is a discount.

Things are getting scarce.  There is a lot more public interest in milsurps.  You don't just have to limit yourself to distributors and importers, though.  There are plenty of reasonable deals on auction sites that can be shipped to a Type 3.

Thanks for the quick response Blue.  What kind of discount do you get at Brownells?  Is it any better than the gunsmith discount which I currently am privy to?

You better hide that plastic!  It's VERY HARD not to get a little bit crazy ordering.  On the other hand, it was the best $30 I spent.  Have easily saved several times that when you factor in the difference in prices.  I haven't seen much in the way of K31's around, plenty of Nagants and K98's though.

Graf and sons will get you a good discount as well. Mine took about 6 weeks from start to finish. Get a list of all the c&r dealers that you might trade with and send them a copy.

I've learned my lesson about the plastic long ago.  Instead, I'll wait for the tax return and let Uncle Sam buy 5 nagants, a K31, maybe and enfield or two......

Thanks for the heads up on Graf and Sons, I'm going to send them a copy of my license and check them out.  I'll need to save all I can on ammo and reloading supplies!
