AICS type stock system for Tikka rifles
« on: February 02, 2009, 05:20:43 AM »
I keep forgetting about posting this. When I had my Tikka Tactical I wanted to install it in one of Pete's RCS stocks but he did not have them out yet.
They are now shipping. For those of you who might be interested in a AICS "type" (uses AI skins but Pete's own chassis) stock for their Tikka, here is the link:

This does away with the plastic mag, etc. Pete is also working on a replacement bolt shroud that will be machined out of metal.

Here is a link to a gent who has his Tactical set up in one of the RCS stocks:

I am thinking of doing a Super Varmint Model in one of these stocks.

Take care,Stan

That is a super expensive stock, costs more than a new rifle! While I am glad to see someone making aftermarket T3 stocks, I will stick with my plastic bits for now. I like a detachable mag, I also like the lightweight of the overall rifle. The joy of a Tikka is a lightweight, accurate, smooth shooting rifle that can be carried in the field. Just my opinion of course.

Well the cost is about the same if you were gonna build a Remmy 700 based AICS stock...guess you don't know about them either?  And they use a removable 10 round mag made of metal..not plastic.
I plan on doing either another Tactical model or a Super Varmint model in this stock and sell my TRG-22.

Here is some info on AI AICS stocks:

Stan, I think the AICS stocks are awesome. Does anyone make a .223 mag or a .223 conversion for them yet?

I know Pete (gent that makes the stock for the Tikka's) does a simple mod for use in the .223 model. I would assume that since they both use AI mags that it would work in a Remington based build also.

BigBamBoo, I am grateful to you for pointing out my ignorance, I don't alas own a Remington, so I never got into the aftermarket, how to make a gun shoot thing.
I still fail to comprehend why I would wish to spend $700 or so on a stock to replace a stock which does not require replacing. I also fail to see why I would need a 10 round "metal" magazine. My plastic magazine is silent, does not rust and resists damage. I am just a dumb hunter who likes 1/2 MOA rifles that cycle smoothly and are a joy to carry all day in the woods.

Well some folks are into tactical match shooting. And a stock Tikka would not last very long in a match. Trigger guard would probably be the first thing to go followed by the mag catch, etc.

Also...some people like to customize their rifles....that is why the Remmy 700 is such a big seller. Most people buy them and then customize them with new stocks, triggers, etc.

So the basis for my post was maybe there are some folks here that want to "upgrade" their Tikka's and use them for other things other then hunting.

I have built some Remmy based rifles for tactical and long range match shooting. I own a Sako TRG-22 that I use for that now, but plan on a new Tikka build based on that stock.

Take care,Stan
