I won't say what I think about people who paint guns or think of them as tools.

Acetone turned this ugly piece of crap into a very presentable hunting rifle.

Wow.... that is a great job Swampman

Actually swampman, that marlin looked good in cammo to me. I've painted a few rifles, sometimes even the stocks. They sure last longer in harsh weather with a good coat of epoxy paint on them.  ;D sometimes function is beauty.

If it isn't blued steel and walnut I can barely look at it.  Just me.......

I'm actually tinking about going back to 1950s styled (non-camo)hunting clothes and getting rid of my tree stands.

I'll agree with you on the clothing. A nice wool plad is camo enought. And most of the guns I've painted were black.

Don't discount the possibility that the rifle may be a survivor of a fire. I have seen some - not a good idea. On the other hand, it might clean up just fine. Before buying, I would run a patch thru the barrel. I have a cleaning rod that breaks down into 6 inch sections to take to gun shows for that purpose.

Everytime florida has a really bad huricane with lots of saltwater flooding there are guns like your describing Autorim, showing up a few months later.

I've never seen one.

Years ago there was quite a few in the Crystal River area. Of course it was not fire damage but salt water damage. Usually rust under the stocks like the old salt wood brownings. The result of flooding in residental homes from the seawater. Maybe you live too far from the gulf, but my friend living in Inverness saw several in pawn shops following the storm.

My dad was raised on Terra Cia island in the years between 1909 & 1918 when the island was completely flooded by gulf water during a hurricane. Everyone left the island because the land was no longer good to farm. His family settled near Sulpher Springs just outside of Tampa. My mother was born in Lakeland in 1912. My family has a long history in florida dateing back into the 1800s.

I live less than 1/2 mile from the water.
